My sister has a chocolate lab (Rex) and when he was just over 6 months old my sisters ex husband accidentaly ran over him and severely damaged one of his back leg.

Talk at the time was to put dog down , the cost of the operation was around 2 thousand pounds (UK) . So my sister insisted local vet see if there was a vet in UK that could do operation at a better price and came back with just over 1 thousand . 4 hours drive , couple of days b&b the operation was done.

Everyone said she was mad . Sure she would get a new pup for 500, "doesn't make "financial" sence.

Year later the husband was gone , Rex the dog slowly made recovery and remained .

Anyway 13 years later today Rex has a stupid hat on his head and a cake and continues to be spoiled rotton and both my sisters children 16/18 and have grown up with the lovable pile of chocolate dog named Rex .

    Happy birthday Rex xxx
