Unsurprisingly, it has that polished, calculated and insipid look to it. And it shouldn't really matter but it doesn't help that there's zero resemblance between Churchill and Cox.

Is this definitely getting a theatrical release? It has a British TV drama look about it.

Joe Wright's Darkest Hour with Gary Oldman as Churchill is the one to watch for.

Not sure. IMDB says budget is 10 million dollars, release date June 16th.

    Official website says:

This leaves me cold and will only lead to hero worship and British idolatry of Churchill and jingoism.

I assume there'll be no mentiion of the Black and Tans or the Bengal Famine in 1943 that cost over 3 million lives that Churchill did nothing about.

Looks pretty good, if a little Hollywood treatment ish. IMDB says the UK release date is June 16th.

Between this, Dunkirk and Alone in Berlin we're not short on WWII films.

Of 3 OP mentions, I'd say Dunkirk the only must see.

This is a film that ends with on-screen text explaining how World War 2 ended.

    It's that kind of film.

This looks an absolute mess of a film that tries to change the narrative of the war by suggesting that Churchill was haunted by the failure and slaughter of Gallipoli and wanted to postpone, if not actually cancel, D Day! An absurd premise.

Will be interested to see how well Cox pulls off Churchill compared to Gleeson and Lithgow who put in stellar performances.

Liked Albert Finney in 'The Gathering Storm' myself - check it out if you haven't seen it.

Solid enough, if a little pristine and unremarkable. Good performances and I enjoyed how the burden of leadership impacted Churchill - he thought Operation Overlord was a 'deadly gamble'. Film was in danger of him having say 'But, I'm Prime Minister' a little too often. The Generals around him certainly made their opinions clear, pretty much bypassing him. Don't know how much this might be dramatic licence. The men were terribly young, hard to forget that.

Nice movie, well acted, I'm glad it wasn't as boring as Dunkirk , with mostly blood and guts, don't expect any drama.

unless everything in the film is documented , the film came across as a bit of a hatchet job on him. Id have preferred a Churchill film set around 38-40 when he was at his peak
