Would anyone have recommendations for a 1st year History trip in the Munster region? Ideally something that would tie in with the First Year course.

Munster is quite a wide range
Suppose you could do the old gaol in Cork city. St. Finbarr's. Shandon bells.
Ailwee cave in the Burren- isn't there the rounded out den of a bear since the last ice age or something?
Killarney national park I think has the old farm set up where they explain horse power etc

Cahir Castle and the Rock of Cashel?
    Cobh and Spike Island?

Killarney National Park is ideal. Muckross House, Muckross Abbey, the traditional farms etc etc

You'd cover a big chunk with bunratty, Lough Gur-especially the large stone circle and dolmens and someone mentioned cragganowen. Get onto Shannon heritage for ideas too
