    I've recently started a new job in the emergency services and I wanted to enquire would anyone have any suggestions on which union to join. Impact or siptu?

    Give it a few years, you really get nothing from joining up with them worthwhile as all pay and condition agreements are collective and applied to unionised and non-unionised staff so you might as well hold out joining as long as possible. It is expensive, think I pay 60 a month for the pleasure.

    I'm in IMPACT as its the one that represents staff in my position, SIPTU are a far more powerful union in my opinion.

    Of course you should join a union..it's the collective strength than has achieved pay terms and conditions over the decades.. and fight every day to retain and improve those terms. eg €1000 pa on all payscales from today in part restoration of previous cuts during recession.
    if noone joined there would be no unions...then employers could do as they wish...
    if you stay out you are effectively letting your colleagues do the hard work whilst you sit back and reap benefit...
    As regards your query...depends on which union represents your grade..generally paramedics fire personnel etc are SIPTU..clerical admin IMPACT..Just ask a colleague..
