I'm probably being rather stupid but Google is not helping so far, is channel 5 available on free to air satellite?

Cheers I wasn't sure if it was a pay channel, why are the likes of channel 4, BBC and itv all available free to air in HD but channel 5 is only SD?

I get Channel 5 HD on freesat, and all its sister channels in SD. +1, 5 USA, Spike, etc.
