I found this on my floor this morning. At the moment it's under a jar, I don't want to harm it unless I'm sure it's a pest/ invasive species.

I've looked on the web, and the closest thing I could find to it was a Palpatores of some sort, but this seems to have a more 'pointy' abdomen. Would anyone be able to tell me what it could be, please?

Looks like a vine weevil to me.

    Thanks cd07.

EDIT - I've just looked at some pictures of vine weevils and it's actually quite different from them, not only because it has two additional legs.

    Thank you for replying, though.

Sorry i didn't see that u mentioned a web in the description! I spent an hour lastnight trying to find out what spider it is to no avail! I've never seen one quite like it!

No, I meant 'web' as in 'internet'... :)

    Have you any more pics?
Hard to see in the photos... could the front 'legs' be antennae?
Curious little beastie, very interested to know what it is, so hope someone can ID it for you!

Unfortunately I don't have any more photos, and although I left it in an jar with plenty of air, it must've been on its last leg, because when I looked at it an hour later it was dead.

I thought about the two front 'things' being antennae, but looking at it closely it does seem it's using them to walk on, and they seem to have joints of some sort. If it was some sort of spider, it was a very odd one, 'cause it appeared to have a rigid 'plaque' on its back, rather than a 'soft' abdomen. It was quite flat-looking too.

(Apologies for the 'technical' terms, hope you understand what I mean despite them. ;))

Ok. As I look at the pics... it doesn't have the body of a spider, or the leg type I associate with harvestmen.
But the plaque on its back definitely looks hard, almost like wing casings. Also reminds me of the back of a water scorpion.
    Curious... and interesting!

Actually..if you put the photo up in the Zoology forum, someone there might be able to ID it or point you in the right direction.

That's a good idea, thanks! (I didn't even know there was one... :))

    Hotei identified it! :)

It's most likely a member of the Trogulidae family, which are Harvestmen.
You might find a similar looking specimen here:

These are usually found in western and southern Europe, and wouldn't be native to Ireland as far as I'm aware. They are most often found in soil, so it's possible it may have arrived in a plant pot or some such like.
