Moving into a new rented apartment over the weekend where we need to buy some furniture and I'm thinking of getting all white furniture from ikea and painting to match rooms after. What kind of paint can I use that will last a couple of years without chipping and is easy use and won't leave brush marks? Do I need to sand furniture first? This is my first apartment and want to make it look homely but on a budget so diy as much as possible which is also new to me ðŸ˜႒ any other ideas for adding our own touch to place without damaging existing furniture, walls etc

there are loads of tutorials online:

    http://grillo-designs.com/paint-ikea-furniture-easy/

    http://littlegreennotebook.com/2013/10/how-to-paint-and-even-wallpaper-ikea.html/

You need to prime it first so that the paint will stick.

It depends alot on what furniture you're planning to buy from IKEA. You might be better to opt for some of their bare wood range as it's designed to be painted, TARVA is one of the ranges. There may be others.

Make sure your landlord is OK with you doing all this beforehand is my advice! I've had landlords who get very cranky about hanging up so much as a picture.

if it's furniture you're painting I wouldn't get white I would get bare wood and sand down before painting. If it's the walls you intend painting you need landlord permission. Painting furniture is lots of fun and there are lots of youtube tutorials and advice.

Thanks for your help guys ended up buying white furniture in ikea as it was cheaper at times and taking hand me downs from both of our families then used contact paper to cover and redesign all the furniture to match each other and the the bedding etc
