2003 Passat - indicators stopped working

Love my old B5 Passat - have had it since new with 225,000 miles now on the clock, but it is beginning to test my loyalty as every 2nd week something seems to give up the ghost.

Last month it was a window regulator that left me with a half-open window for 3 days until I could get it sorted.

No sooner is that sorted out (with me €150 poorer) but now the indicators have stopped working - the hazard lights work fine, and the dash displays the indicators working in that scenario, so I guess that ought to prove that the bulbs/fuses are ok, so anyone care to suggest some ideas why the indicators themselves are not working ?

    Many thanks

You need a new Hazard light switch (it also contains the relay for the indicators)

is that a relatively cheap straight-forward replacement job, or something more complex / expensive ??

Very easy pop out the old switch (gently pry it out ) plug it out. Plug in the new switch and push it back in.

    Very handy to change,

I replaced one in a friend's Mk4 Golf, I think they are a similar part, cost around €20 from the motor factors.
