Movement in List price on new cars

    Hi all,

    With a growing family, we are looking to buy a 7 seater car and have the list whittled down to either an X-Trail or Skoda Kodiaq. My question here is a general one. We are planning on buying a brand new car but in your experience, do garages tend to move much on list prices which they have quoted on their print-outs in the showroom. I'm just wondering if it is an option for me to push the dealers to see if there is any movement on their list prices.

    Your best deal would be on a car already at the dealership, ie one that is already built and spec decided, even better deal will be a pre reg where the car has been registered to the dealer as the first owner. If your ordering something with a waiting list which I would assume the Kodiaq has I would doubt there would be any discount especially if it's a factory order.

    Having no trade in car helps making a deal in that the total profit the dealer makes is plain for them to see from the outset.

    There is always discounts to be had for buying straight. Take note that the X-Trail is getting a mid life refresh later this year so dealers might be more flexible with discounting the current model. The Kodiaq is only after being launched and dealer stock is very low while interest in the car is strong, this means that the dealer won't have to work as hard to sell what they get their hands on.
