They're a great car. Petrol is a safer choice than diesel on them. Avoid the automatic 1.8
    Don't buy one without aircon

I have a 2009 DRD model and friend has 2006 Diesel (think its 2.2?)

The 2009 model is way nicer - its actually almost the same as the one currently for sale in dealerships brand new so there's been little change in the model in the last 8 years.

Other issue is tax - 2009 is 390 whereas my friend is paying nearly a grand.

that said both happy with the model - I've had mine 3 years and have had 0 problems so far. I intend keeping it for a good few more years.

    Other stuff

    Nice to drive
    Easy to park
    Decent boot

On the diesel vs petrol thing - ours drives locally 4 days a week but gets a 110 mile round trip most weeks so there's never been an issue with DPF etc. That said it does about 51 mpg (real) on the long round trips but only about 38-40 mpg locally.

If you can stretch to a 2009 version do, if not the 2007 is a decent machine.

    cheers

Very good car. Just finished with a 08 one and it never gave any trouble. boring but good. What kind of money was the 07 one as I was struggling to put a value on our old one. Some of the ones for sale look very rough and others way overpriced. (Our new replacement has already had more issues in 7 days than the Toyota in 9 years)

The 04-09 is a Corolla Verso, and the 09 onwards is a Verso, same idea but different cars based on different generation (Avensis) platforms.

Agree with the valuation thing. Valuations seem to be all over the shop. I
paid 15k for mine 3 yrs ago which seemed high to me at the time for a 5 yr old car (it was totr model though) but that was the market at the time!

I would say that a realistic value for mine now at 90k would be 9k (thought I wouldnt sell it for that) but I've seen similar models asking prices on carzone etc ranging from 10k to 13k???

If the OP can stretch to the Verso as distinct from Corolla Verso (Petrol version would be cheaper again and theres a few in NI/UK) I'd say its a good option

Just on the tax thing, on the older Corolla Verso
2.2 diesel is €570 for 08 and onwards
    2.2 diesel is €994 for 07
    2.0 diesel is €710 for 04-07
1.6 petrol is €514 from 04 to end of June 08
    1.6 petrol is €750 from July 08 to 09

On the newer Verso (2009 shape)
    1.6 petrol is €570
    2.0 diesel is €280

AFAIK, the 2.0 was only sold here from 2010. A 2009 UK import 2.0 is in the €390 tax band. It was revised in 2010 to bring the C02 down to 129g (€280 tax)

I bought a 2.0 D4D in 2011. Never any trouble, until last year the injectors went at 75000Km. €800 to fix but the cost was covered by Toyota, despite it being 2 years out of warranty as it had FSH.

I traded it in against an Auris Hybrid estate and got €18.5K, so very strong residuals due to the Toyota badge and the fact that it was a 7 seater (because everyone had babies during the recession!)

Great car if you have 2-3 kids. If you are planning on using the rear seats all the time I'd look for something else, as there is not much legroom in them and you end up with no boot.
