Road traffic question

    Hi Folks

Quick question that im hoping someone can clarify.

Today I was driving home in evening traffic. One single lane (which i was in) and bus lane on the left.

As i neared the top of the road i indicated left into the bus lane as at that point it would go into 2 normal lanes.

The traffic was at a stand still. A van pulled up beside me and beeped. When i wound down the window, a man driving it said to me

"You cut into the bus lane. A policeman took a picture of your car".

I didnt take too much notice of him as I suspect he was just being a busy body. I told him I didnt see any guard and I was turning left at the lights anyway so i needed to get into the bus lane.

I drove ahead a bit and he pulled up beside me and spoke with me again.

"Did you not see the policeman? He took your picture. Do you know its 3 penalty points and a €100 fine?".

At this point I was a bit pis $ed off and asked him if it was a guy driving the car, would he continue to question me everytime he pulled up beside me. I drove off then.

Question is, (im hoping I am right ) can a guard take a picture of your car and then receive a fine in the post? My thought was a guard had to physically pull you over, or a speed van can take picture etc.

    Thanks a million

    He was bulsh1tting you.

No a garda does not take photo of car, you'd have to be stopped.

On saying that, some gardai are sticklers when it comes to bus lanes and cutting in before the buslane officially ends can produce a ticket, but the garda would have to stop you.

Don't worry about it, guard would have to pull you.

Sounds like your man was just trying to intimidate you. Ya can't even get penalty points for driving in the bus lane so i wouldn't be worrying about it.

I had that recently a guy stopped/ pulled alongside me in traffic, kept insisting
I had no rear lights or brake lights. Was v insistent, was telling me I was really dangerous, I was going to get into trouble.
Got home. Checked all the lights, all working perfectly. checked relay switch, fuses etc, all ok.

He seemed intent on frightening me, quite aggressive in his tone. Dunno was it coz he saw I was a girl on my own in the car...

It's possible he was just being an a$$, but that is a tactic used to steal cars.
They do that quite a bit in London to motor cyclists.

I've heard of one incident locally where this happened, two guys in a car beeping her out of it telling her to pull over because her lights and then when she got out they robbed her car.
Now whether that's true or total urban legend I don't know!

that's what occurred to me as I read it. Not the same as the OPs case, which is odd to say the least. Any normal person would think twice about approaching a lone female like that
