Ikea hack

    Folks,
I wanted to put in some wardrobes into a room, and saw this person who had used Pax wardrobes from Ikea. I thought it gave a great effect, and want to do something similar. I need to raise the wardrobes off the floor by about 170mm, as I want to run a skirting underneath it.

I was wondering if anybody had any ideas about the best way to achieve this. I was thinking of something like a few bricks with a layer of 3/4 inch ply on top. Not sure if i can get any brick with a dimension of 150mm. Solids are 4 inch, cavities 9 inch.

The wardrobes will also be fixed to the wall therefore increasing the stability.
    All thoughts welcome,
    Barns.

170mm sounds huge, won't that look odd with a wardrobe on top of it?

I've just done similar for Besta units and we raised it up by 96mm and that was more then enough to clear the skirting board and get it flush against the wall. We just built a frame out of 2 by 4s ever so slightly narrower then the units and painted the front of it white to match. Similar to what they do here:

For 170mm you'd be talking about 7" planed timber, which I think should still work.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to run a 150mm skirting board below it, so it shouldn't look lost. I was trying to avoid building a timber frame underneath it, and I though some concrete blocks of some size might make it a little easier, especially to keep it level.

Use adjustable kitchen legs and run a kicker around 3 sides

Cheers Mick, that's a great idea. That will make it really was to level. Can you get them in 6 inch heights?

Thanks Mick. Just researched and other have successfully done exactly what you suggested and they said it worked a treat. Ordered from amazon. Ta.
