Reported accident to insurer but didn't claim for costs. Will NCD be affected?

    Hi,

I had a minor accident recently and reported this to my insurer but decided to cover the costs myself thinking that this would mean my NCD wouldn't be impacted. Is this the case? If I don't claim for damages and repair it myself do I still lose NCD?
    Thanks

Also, just wanted to mention that no other cars were involved and there was no damage done to public property or anything other than my car.

    No, you don't loose it.

You are obliged to inform the insurer about any accident that might generate payment, but as long as no claim has been made, the NCD is not affected.

OK, thanks for the reply. Why even bother mentioning it so? Will it be recorded on your record for future insurers to see? Will it have any negative impact on the cost of your future premiums with the current insurer or others?

Depends on the case: if you were in any kind of accident that there was a risk of subsequent claim against you, then that's when reporting it in particular would probably be wise.

But if you bump into your own garden wall or something there's no need.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
