Had my first Swallows (11+) over the River Suck on the Roscommon/Galway border on Friday - same place I saw my first Swallows last year!

Had my first Sand Martins, with a couple of Swallows, over the River Moy in Ballina then yesterday, and stopped by a friends house in Roscommon on the way home and he had a pair of Swallows already coming in and out of the old nest in his shed!

It's worth recording your first Swallows (and Cuckoos and Swifts) at the website here: http://www.springalive.net/en-ie It's used to show children across Europe the 'arrival of Spring' to help encourage an interest in nature and wildlife!

Hurray! I was getting a bit anxious as I havent seen any yet. I worry every year that they won't return to my sheds! Can't wait to see "mine" back again.

I have the added bonus of swifts nesting across the road from my workplace, I love to see them zooming around for the summer.

First swallows in Leitrim. Saw them near Fenagh Abbey.
Early for us. Tis normally around the 17th we first see them.
Now we await for the cuckoo. Usually a day or two after the swallow in the past but........we wait.
