I just bought a 151 Audi, should I buy the cleaning products from the Audi dealer or should I get them from any place that sells them? Are they all the same, I presume the Audi products would be more expensive but would they be better?

Thread moved to the detailing forum

I definitely would not buy cleaning stuff from Audi, I'm sure it's a rip off and offers nothing that other much cheaper products. I'm sure the regulars in here could give you some direction!

No don't go dealer, more expensive for sure and not necessary better for it. Same products prob got at halfords for less

Check out detailing website's as more likely better products and better prices, look up video's on YouTube about cleaning/detailing THEN decide what's best for you and your life style/wallet/timescale etc.

You may a spare hour or be happy out with music on with weekend spare etc

Only an hour could mean hose pipe a wash n wax shampoo and maybe spray wax to make it shine.

A full weekend means you time to wash with pH neutral shampoo, decontamination, quick clay, wash again, dry lovingly apply a wax/sealant and buff.

Ammonyc good you tube channel good clear advice on how to go about everything.

Minimum basics 2 buckets, good wash mitt, grit guards and choice of shampoo from here its up to you.

    No,
Don't buy the products from the main dealer.

Build up a basic kit and you will achieve much better results and have many staisfying days while doing it.
I am sure Curran complied a bifinners list of must haves before, I am sure he will be along and will post it here for you.

Minimum, to keep the car looking fresh, and relatively free from wash damage (swirls) you need to wash the car with a safe wash technique - the 'Two Bucket Method'

For that you'll need two buckets with girt guards, a good wash mitt, pH neutral shampoo, a good quality microfiber drying towel, and pH neutral wheel cleaner.

There are plenty of other products; decontamination products for example, removal of tar and iron/fallout from your paintwork, but that wont be of concern for at least 6 months.
Glass cleaner, tyre dressing, etc might be other things you might want from the outset.

Thanks. Another question, what's the best brands to use or are they much all the same?

There is huge difference between products.
There is also a massive difference in what you will buy in a regular shop / motor factors, compared to a supplier of detailing products.

If you were ton stick to regular shops, Meguiar's would be a decent brand. Autoglym would have some good products.
Detailing products will be more expensive but will out perform the others.

Ooooo that's just opening a tin of worms that is.

As above if your a halfords guy then stick to meguairs, autoglym I be 50/50 on myself.

Stuff in detail shops to be fair will not likely let you down.

I will say Bilt Hamber though, just leave it there. :D

Where can I get these detailing products, is there any good detailing shops in the Cork area? I seen one on the net called D and D detailing, anyone know anything about this shop? They seem to be using and selling a brand called KLEEN FREAKS.

I work at D&D. We stock a few brands, now namely Gtechniq, Kleen Freaks and our own CleanerCar brand. I'm a huge Gtechniq fanboi but have great experiences with both Kleen Freaks and CC.

May be too late at this stage but for what you paid for a 151 you might have gotten some Audi cleaning products thrown in..
I you can, you could call in to D&D and I'm sure you'd get some good advice on products. But be warned - if you get the detailing bug it'll cost you! There's just so much stuff that you don't realise you need - it's like opening Pandora's box! : )
