    Hi all

I'm flying with Ryanair tomorrow and my max check in is 20kgs. i'm over that by about 7kgs.

Can i pay the excess at the check in do you know? I'm kind of stuck 'cause moving countries for work and everything i packed is needed for the first week.

    Thanks!

As far as I know you can but it can be very expensive at €10 per kilo.

Do you have a carry on case already or can you put the extra in there? If that is not an option it may work out cheaper to check in another 15kg bag at about €40.

I would imagine with that amount over they won't let it go free and will charge for either all or some of the extra kg's at the check-in/baggage drop desk. If they were to charge the full amount the fee is €10 per kg so that would be an additional €70. To book a 2nd 15kg bag online during original booking is about €25, you should be able to add this to your booking now if you sign in, I'm unsure this close to departure date if that price would be the same, worth checking out.

I was 1kg over flying from belfast this year. I had to take it out and put it on my hand luggage.
Still the same weight on the plane buts thems the rules !!!

If at all possible try and bring a carry on bag and put all your heavy items into this such as shoes and heavy clothing like jeans etc.

I've traveled extensively with Ryanair over the years and have yet to have a carry on bag weighed. Just be sure that it is a designated carry on size.

You may be given the option to check it in at the gate for free also so if you do this be sure to take any valuables such as wallet/passport etc and keep them on your person.

Flew with ryanair last week, and was surprised to see self service kiosks at bag drop.
Couple in front of us had overweight bag and as far I could see once weighted they had no option to take stuff out etc, so I assume they had to pay full excess baggage charge at €10/kilo - don't think there is any checkin agent discresion any more. Best option would be 2nd bag as suggested earlier, or stuff your carryon to max but keep it within cabin bag size limits. Also they are strictly enforcing the 1st 90 carry on bag rule - all bags after that are put in hold, free of charge, so remove all valuables and have a lock handy so it can be kept free from roaming hands...

Ah - perfect - thanks all! I checked in another bag of 15kg. Don't know why I didn't cop that option in the first place - I had it in my head that 20kg was the absolute max i could check in.

Possibility a throw-back from the last time I flew Ryanair and, being broke, I took only carry on and wore half my luggage onto the plane! :)

A stowaway bag in addition to carry-on bag gives you about 14 litres of extra carry-on for free. I bought a squishy bag matching those dimensions at the weekend on ebay and another for lufthansa which is similar size but different dimensions.

Depends on the airport/staff, now you can take an extra 'shopping' bag they seem to have lost the money making exercise so do it less. I find if your bag looks heavy they will see dollar signs. Wear it off the shoulder and dont make it look like theres a dead body in ;)
