An Irish farmer is confident he has broken a world record by reversing a tractor and trailer for more than 13 miles (21 km).
Patrick Shalvey attempted the record on a long stretch of road in County Cavan he viewed only through a rear windscreen.
The record attempt took him about two-and-a-half hours. He finished at about 12:30.
Guinness World Records will confirm if the record has been broken by 4 April.
I'm sure this is a metaphor for something, though I've no idea what ... but that'll be some pain in the neck he has after that.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Maybe going forward was broken, too cheap to pay so reversed and went home the long way.

There was an oul boy lived near me drove about in a Mk1 Escort that was stuck in reverse for two or three years and not a word about it.

No outrage for a farmer reversing a trailer backwards for 13miles?
Ah yes, it was Cavan. Do that on the M50, I dare ya.

Irish police, St John Ambulance and support vehicles were on hand to assist Mr Shalvey in the attempt.....The endurance record attempt was filmed as part of Big Week on the Farm, a week of programmes to be shown on RTÉ in early April....
Big Week on the Farm will be broadcast live from the Shalvey farm throughout the week.

No wonder they want to double the license fee. Some value for money that is.

I think I was in a car behind him for at least 8 of those miles...

Cavan's proudest moment since the 1997 Ulster football final.

I'm imagining this world record attempt would have looked a lot like Dougal driving the milk float.

Great skill. He should start a business teaching others. There are enough farm and other vehicles pulling stuff to make it a big market.

Farm kids learn to drive a tractor at about 10 years of age. They're not the type of people who take lessons.

He should try it next time with a 6x4 car trailer or a land roller. That'd be some craic.

I get emotional when I read of humanity breaking new ground like this.

Now we have truly gone beyond our grandparents' dreams.

Only in Cavan do money saving experiments turn into World Records.

Apparently the reason for it was to find the black hole that leads into that mythical place known as "Leitrim".

Can't find the video, but a German army driving instructor in 2008 reversed his HGV 64km in 5 hours and a half back in 2008. This wasn't just vehicle and trailer, this was the tractor, the semi-trailer behind it, and a full trailer behind that. Side mirrors only. Will come back if I can find the video.

Or you in the Pajero. Mind you don't go Sideways. Always heard a Diahatsu Fourtrak was great with a trailer. ;)
