    Hi can anyone help please?

Have a solid fuel stanley and lately we can hear a gushing noise in attic every now and then. Its like a rumbling of water. The other day I noticed water coming from the overflow pipe outside when this was happening.
    Any ideas?

It could be a wrong thermostat setting, a faulty thermostat, a faulty pump, not enough rads on to take the heat away from it, sludge in the system. Not the sort of problem that will go away. Did it work ok until recently? Did you do anything different lately?

You could check some of the thing if you are good at that sort of thing, otherwise have it looked at by a plumber.

Could it be that the water in boiler is overheating and the pressure is released through overflow pipe ?> You may want somebody to have a look at it, as it can end up badly

I must join discussion myself to see whats up with it

It may be only a mater of fiddling with thermostats at the end of the day, but constant overheating can cause valves and inner parts to break, and if it gets too hot a sudden drop in pressure could possibly even burst the tank

I have just put in a call with the plumber. He reckons it could be the ballcock but we'll wait and see.
    Thanks for you reply

I don't see your reply as very accurate. If you don't know the answer, just say so. or don't reply.

You might be in luck and as your plumber said, a ballcock problem, especially if the water was cold coming out of the overflow. Don't scald yourself, if checking.

I was being serious and replying to the part underlined above. I don't see that as being a very accurate reply.

If I am mistaken, then I would be happy to read an explanation of the points underlined, especially the last part of the sentence.

btw. While I am being serious, I am aware that you were trying to be helpful.
