Faulty 2011 MBP - Part of the Recall ?

I have an early 2011 15" MacBook Pro that has issues as described by Apple here.

What are the chances it's still covered by this recall ? It was bought in March/April 2011 but I don't have the receipt anymore.

I entered the serial number on the "Check your coverage" page but it doesn't say "Yes you are covered" but simply validates the purchase, confirms it no longer qualifies for phone support and tells me the warranty has expired but I may have repairs done under my rights as a consumer in Europe.

Should I call Apple direct or bring it to CompuB or similar AARC ?

    Thanks

    Ken

Officially that programme is over. The bigger problem, Zen, as this user recently discovered, is that Apple is no longer offering hardware service on those models, so the parts are now vintage. In that user's case, Apple initially offered to repair (extending the programme) but then withdrew the offer when they realised they didn't have the parts.

Definitely contact Apple and see what they say. It will probably hep if you bought it from them as well, but since you don't have the receipt, I'm guessing you didn't. You could still make a small claims application against whoever you did buy it from, though.

I was talking to an ex Apple Tech today and he suggested I follow it up. I kind of figured it was a bit old. It was ordered directly from Apple so there should be a record of it somewhere here.

Still, might chance my arm anyway. Nothing to lose. It was a nice machine - Hi-Res matt display, i7, 16GB - would be useful to have as a backup.

    Thanks for the reply Prof.

It's good that you bought it from Apple. If they prove unhelpful, cite the Irish Sale of Good Act which gives you 6 years from the date of delivery to make a claim. This is better than what you get under EU law. Apple actually have a pretty good summary of consumer law on their own website. If necessary, threaten the small claims court.

I had this issue last year. They did the repair under warranty, at no cost to me.

    Replaced the graphics logic board.

But, as the page you quoted shows, that cover ended 31st Dec 2016. So, you might be out of luck.
