I've Apparently become a commercial customer

So, i registered with Irish water, paid all my bills in full and then it went all quite. Suddenly and out of the blue i recieved a notification that apparently Irish water had been notified of a change of occupancy at my HOME address and low and behold i was obliged to register and would be liable for Commercial Rates. The letter had my full name but a very slight variation of my address. Alarmed I emailed them immediately with my Domestic account details and a scan of the offending notifcation which has a new account number, i also detail absolutely no change of occupancy and that i have never had commercial charges and that I lived in a humble cottage on the side of a mountain (with a 1/4 acre.

A full week later (gosh they must be busy) i recieve an email from the business team confirming they had been informed by my local county council of a change of occupancy and got my details from them, the local council was named. The email ended with "and I will be liable", typically they did not fully read my email to them.

I decided to expand in my response about the size of my humble abode and wondered how I could now have a domestic account and commercial account. I decided to contact the named council and got through to a very helpful lady in their finance department. She did confirm Irish water had taken over commercial rates but helpfully checked their data base on all commercial customers. Not a single person in the entire county with my name had ever had a commercial water account or liabilty. She had no idea how Irish water would have been given incorrect information.

Intrigued I sent a further email to Irish water advising I had now confirmation from the named county council that there is no record of anyone with my name and address ever having a commercial rates account with them and also furnished the name of the person I spoke to and her email address (with her permisson)

So there I am , thinking I did the right thing and now Irish water decide to attempt to land a commercial bill on a 2 bed cottage in the middle of nowhere.

I would be intrgued if anyone from Irish water would like to respond

I will be delighted to furnish account details

I have to commend Mairead for her prompt response and more importantly assistance in resolving the issue. Irish water have emailed me Directly to confirm there was an administrative error, apologised and updated their records.

I can now go back to being a humble Domestic customer with the hope of a nice summer ahead.

    Thanks again.
