Any ideas on what could be causing a loud noise like a bagpipes drone in the engine of a 04' fiesta? The car is running fine otherwise but has the noise constantly.

    Is the car petrol?

If it's petrol I would say possibly the coil pack. Does it happen when the car is being driven or does it occur when idle too? Is the engine management light on the dash to indicate a fault?

Does pitch change with speed? Could be a belt, rubbing tyres, an actual Scotsman, hive of bees, ....

Tbh, go to a mechanic. Diagnosing weird noises when we can't hear them is pretty tricky...

Yes it's petrol. It happens when the car is idle too, no light on the dash though.

My uncle had a Polo which started making an appalling noise under the bonnet. It turned out that an air hose designed to bring warm air from the exhaust to the air filter housing had drooped down, and was being rubbed by the fan blade on the alternator pully.

A woman I know bought a fiesta of that vintage 8 years ago, she's not familiar with car related things, so she did not notice engine's knocking (or just told it's nothing serious, I don't know).

Knocking sound was loud on cold engine, quiet when engine heated up. Indy I know tried to sort that up last year (yes, woman drove it for years with knocking engine and nothing happened), he checked absolutely everything he could and didn't find a reason. Finally got cheap 2nd hand engine and replaced it.
