Success of implants with autoimmune?

I'm just wondering if there are any dentists who have any experience of the success (or otherwise) of using implants for patients with an autoimmune disorder. Specifically, I am wondering about Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Any experience, insights or opinions gratefully received!

I am unaware of any literature suggesting a lower success rate in patients with SLE. Most authorities suggest implants are a good idea due to the dry mouth suffered by SLE patients. If you were on immunosuppresants that would have a implication for post operative infections, however mostly that can be handled of avoided by local measures.

SLE in itself does not effect bone metabolism, and should not effect the "long term" integration of dental implants.

    I am open to correction.

Thank you so much, very much appreciated. I'm not sure what the success rates of implants are in normal circumstances but there certainly seems to be a lot of adverse stories from support groups. However, I am aware that the plural of anecdote is not data so your input is very helpful. I don't especially want to end up with dentures but full implants are a vast expense so trying to find a way to make a more educated decision.

Do you know if there is such a thing as a dentist who specialises in autoimmune conditions?

implant sucess rates are around the 85 = 98 percent range depending on the study and the location of the implant and or bone grafting requirements. A very successful treatment by all accounts.

Online forums tend to concentrate bad luck stories, also implants dont work as well in the hands of inexperienced or incautious operators.
