    What would be an idea first car?

    I want either a BMW 520D, a Mercedes E class, a Land Rover or an Audi A4. I'm 18 and just got my licence.

    my first car (in 2012) was a 2006 BMW 320d M-Sport Auto, insurance was reasonable enough, I was 30, though I had 13 years driving experience, 10 of which was with a full licence.

    OP- you could really do with a year or 2 as a named driver to get yourself in the door with some of the insurance companies.

    Ideal first car would be an old, yet reliable motor that was cheap to run / insure etc... and one I didn't mind getting a scrape or two.
    It'll be good to learn more and then you'll really appreciate that they you upgrade and get something nicer!

    I got my first car last month.

    A 06 Nissan Almeria. It cost 950 from a dealer, with another 550 for service and a gear box. Its a great little driver.

    put all your information into an online insurance quote website then you will know what's wrong with a 520d as your first car :cool:

    Nothing wrong with the car but the combination of the engine size and your youthful exuberance makes insurance executives cry.

    nothing wrong with it, its a 4 pot tractor engine sold by the bucket load "prestige" car...

    It's usually also 180 odd bhp and a good few torques. Faster than most Irish cars despite its popularity.
