I need a good screw

I don't do a huge amount of DIY and today I finished a box of screws that I must have bought when I got my first house nearly 20 years ago. They were 40mm Zinc plated countersunk jobbies and I used them for nearly everything that's ever been hung on the walls of all 3 houses I've owned in that time. So the time has come to buy another big box (200+)

With life being too short to buy cheap screws, what brand would you recommend that will last me for another 20 years?

Not as far as I am aware but Screwfix and other hardware stores carry SPAX. I would not use any other brand.

Cool. Will be up that way tomorrow so I'll drop in and see what the story is. Many thanks.

Saw thread title and thought it would be better suited to After Hours. :)

Thanks guys. I got sorted for Spax in Tucks this morning. €8 for 200 4x40mm zinc plated countersunk. Can't argue with that price. Homebase charge the same for their own brand screws. There is a weird head on them that can use Robertson (square) bits too. Thought it would cam out easier, but I've driven one half a dozen times without it slipping. Apparently they can be driven without pilot holes, but they seemed a bit wobbly on a Pozidrive bit. Anyway, I'm a happy camper - should do me another few years.

As for the thread title, I don't know what you mean...

I'm thinking the thread title was intended to catch our attention, which it did. Sorry I can't help you with your enquiry though. lol

I trust you are not including me in that! I did NOT post this thread but could not help agreeing that the title was ambiguous, to say the least.
