Battery not charging on 2002 Lotus Elise

    Hey All

My Girlfriend arrived home last week tell me that "all the car electrical systems kept turning off one by one"

After doing a quick check on battery and alternator I discovered that it was not charging, only 12.16 volts on battery while car was running.

I've discovered also that the connector to the Alternator was busted. (held on with a cable tie)

So I got the Alternator rebuilt, and a new connector (Alternator needed new bearings and a regulator, AND the plastic casing was broke)
Hooked it all back up together and started the car.

Now for some reason the Battery light is staying "on" on the Dash board and the battery still isn't charging (I'd be expecting 14v on the battery while the car is running)
I'm positive I got the polarity correct on the new connector (No Pun intended)

Any ideas what could be wrong?

are you sure the battery is good, wouldn't hurt to swap it out with a known good one, could be an easy fix.

I have a trickle charger, that is keeping it charged.
It's taking a charge off the trickle charger

Also, it's less than 12 months old.

    what's the "exciter" :o:o

If it's housed in the alternator it should be fine. Alternator was tested and working by guys that rebuilt it.

Does the battery light come on with the ignition turned on but the engine stopped? That's the exciter circuit.

    It does yeah
So Turn the ignition to ON position but not started.
    Battery light comes on.

Sounds like there's still a problem with the alternator. I presume it was tested when rebuilt?
