    Hi All

Having an issue with the Diesel Particulate Filter on my Mazda 6.

    The story:

Previously, on a long journey, the DPF light might come on, stay on for about 5 mins. and then go off.

I read that this meant the DPF was executing a a regeneration. So thought nothing of it.

On Friday I drove from Dublin to Galway. I picked up some fuel about 40% of the way there. On the way into Galway city the DPF light started flashing and the car became very sluggish.
the engine management light also came on.

I read flashing DPF light means blockage. So brought it to a mech in Galway on the Saturday morning.
He said he could manually fire the Regeneration procedure while the car is stationary. He did so and reset the fault codes. The Car wasn't sluggish anymore and seemed ok. (I was present when the regeneration was running. Car gets V hot and idles at about 2000rpm)

Next day I drove from Galway to Killarney. No issues

Then today (Monday) I drove from Killarney to Dublin.
About 3 miles from the M7 Toll the DPF light started flashing again.
    Car again felt sluggish.

    First off.
1: Is the sluggishness a fail safe on the ECU to protect the engine or is it sluggish because of the clogged DPF
2: Is it possible for me to Fire the Regeneration cycle myself? (I have OBD connector etc)
3: Any recommendations on DPF replacement/refurb/cleaning services?
4: Am I better off removing the DPF? This is last resort for me, I know emission controls are needed, but if they are ineffective or are of a poor design (Based on what I read DPF is a terrible design if your not doing big miles). Will the car Pass an NCT without the DPF?

Any other tips or advice is very much appreciated.
Note: I am aware that the DPF light also flashs after X amount of miles (sneaky mazda service reminder) This is not the issue here.

" He did so and reset the fault codes."

Do you know what those fault codes said?

The fault codes will probably hold the key as to why the dpf did not regenerate on it's own.

It should not need to be done manually unless there's a problem.

If you continue to drive it with this problem it will get blocked to a point where a manual regeneration will not be possible and the dpf will have to be removed to be cleaned.
