Hi all, unfortunately after losing my job I have had to sign up for jobseekers benefit. I had my meeting last week and received a letter in the post today to say I have been chosen for selective signing. I have never heard of this before and was just wondering is this the norm? I have no problem with the short notice for signing on at all I am just a bit paranoid that they think I'm bogey or something and wondering why I was picked for this process.

Selective signing was introduced a few years ago in an effort to cut down on 'nixers' and welfare tourism. As you are on Jobseekers Benefit and therefore not means tested it won't be that something curious showed up in your bank statements etc., so who knows why you were selected. Best thing to do is just show up to sign on the dates you are notified about and remember to bring the notification letters with you.

Thanks Balagan! Think I was just being paranoid for no reason ☺
