Keeping fences clean

    What do people do to keep under electric fences clean ?

    As we not allowed use round up any more I am thinking about spray the ditch with a weed killer . Anyone try this and does it work ?

    The last thing you would want to use under an electric fence is round up. It will kill everything, including grass. And then when there is no competition weeds take over twice as bad. Use a selective herbicide if you want to spray, like Grazon. If it is single strand, cattle will graze the grass in under the fence.

    Briars is the only other thing then to contend with. I find a run of hedge clippers (or petrol strimmers) this time of the year will keep them under control for the grazing season before they start to take off.

    Grazon works really well in ditches, it'll even kill briars if they're young.

    Never actally used round up anyway . Don't like the look of a brown ditch. When is the best time to spray with grazon ?

    Early may when the weeds are growing well, you might need to go again in a couple months if nettles are very bad,
