Up til now I have been buying applaws tins from Zooplus but money is tight at the moment! Can anyone recommend a brand of cat food readily available that isn't completely full of crap? I suppose probably it's the 'best of a bad bunch' situation....

LIDL Coshida Dry Food (decent amount of protein- €2.49 per 750g) is pretty good - our large kittens go crazy for the Junior variety. Aldi pouches in Jelly (€2.89 per 12 pouches) are also popular in our house and for a 'treat' we go for the Felix As Good As It Looks (roughly €6 per 12 pouches).

Order Bozita cans; price per kg will be similar enough on the larger once to supermarket without the fillers (for example Bozita chicken 400g 20x saver pack is 2.86 EUR per kg to compare with Whiskas 96 mega pouch pack at 3.12 EUR per kg).

For Bozita chicken for example the content is:
    Chicken
Chicken (22%), beef, pork, sodium chloride, calcium carbonate.
So no vegetable filler stuff you'd find in Whiskas etc.
