    Hi All,

2011 Audio A6 S line.(new Shape) on the controls around the gearstick, there's a nav button . When I press this I get a message on the mmi 'Navigation System not available'. How I get this working or is it possible? Do I need to just get a maps cd?

Has anybody else come across this?

    Thanks

I haven't looked into it formally, but from what I've seen on various enthusiast sites it is by no means a trivial thing to install. Seems to be numerous modules to install/upgrade, a lot of cables to run and software to be configured. Most costs estimates I saw were 4 figures, and that was just for parts.

Oh Jaysus. I can live without it so and use my phone if and when stuck.

    Thanks

Unless the car came fitted with Sat Nav then you would probably need some hardware/software upgrades. For example, you would possibly need a GPS receiver, sd card slot fitted, etc. The buttons are only there because the manufacturer fits these things across the entire model range whether or not the feature is fitted or not.

I wouldn't worry.. I have it fitted and have used it maybe twice in the last 6 months and then more as a novelty

Google maps is much quicker to use than inputting via the MMI - plus you'll need to keep the Audi maps updated which can be pricey enough (cost me £100 to get the 2016 maps there recently which was pretty cheap considering dealer prices but necessary if the system was to be of use at all as it didn't even know the M7 goes beyond Portlaoise these days!)

I'd love though if these apps/systems gave a "avoid crappy backroads" option though as the last time I used Google maps to find somewhere I ended up driving through a strip of tarmac in the middle of a bog!
