    Hi

I'm looking for some information please regarding illness benefits. I'm on jobseekers allowance at the moment. I suffer from anxiety/depression. I've been on medication for a couple of months now & i'm still waiting to hear about counselling. As i am NOT job searching right now.
Should i apply for illness benefits instead? If so how do i? or what is the process please?

I received a letter from seetac on Friday. I'm scared!

My advice would be to apply for Disability Allowance as soon as possible by collecting a form from your intreo office. Fill out as much of it as you can and take it to the Seetec Office and show it to them. They will take you off their list temporarily until you get a reply from disability section at Longford which can take up to 6 months.

Get your GP to fill out their section of the form and make sure you send it all off to Disability section with all the documents they need.

Then go and see your community welfare officer and apply for illness benefit. If you qualify you can get it for up to a year. If not you might get supplementary welfare allowance or just be left on JA.

I was in the same situation as you. I am now on disability allowance and am better off than I was on jobseekers and have free travel as well.

Its a long process with plenty of hoops to jump through, but stick with it and you will get there in the end!

    Good Luck.

    Thank you you're advice :)
I would be scared that receiving disability/illness benefit would affect my chances of employment in future though. What was it like for you?

Why would it affect your chances of employment? You don't have to tell any employer what benefit you were receiving.

It's quite hard to get DA, you need to show proof that you - have an injury, disease or physical or mental disability that has continued or may be expected to continue for at least one year
As a result of this disability be substantially restricted in undertaking work that would otherwise be suitable for a person of your age, experience and qualifications

Your doctor will have to fill in forms and agree that this is the case.
