Does anyone know why tk red lemonade is being recalled, no shop has it in stock. There's nothing about it online.

I've moved this out of the Beer & Wine subsection as it's not alcohol related

    The Gloomster!

Read somewhere that TK (and most red lemonades) contain sugar, E951 (aspartame) and saccharin just in case controversial aspartame alone isn’t artificially sweet enough (x200 times more so, than regular table sugar).

Also may contain E110 (SUNSET YELLOW):

WHAT IS IT? ‘Coal tar dye’
FOUND IN Sweets, yoghurts, ‘cheap’ jam
EFFECTS Blamed for triggering stomach upsets and skin irritations. Has also been linked to hyperactivity in children
    BANNED Norway, Sweden and Finland

I actually have an old bottle of TK red lemonade in the press and it tastes a million times better than the crappy new bottles. In fact I noticed the sugar content has been reduced considerably so that could have a part to play.

Not that it'll make a huge difference to TK but I'm no longer buying this new tasteless cr*p anymore.

The white one tastes different the past while too, TK died the day they discontinued cream soda and ciderette man I miss them.

We were raised on TK red lemonade - and ciderette, and raspberry, and orange - and cream soda. Happy memories!
The joy of half filling a pint glass with TK orange and plopping in a load of ice cream... :)

They took the sugar out of Club Orange too and put sweeteners in and it's rotten now.

The only thing I've ever had worse than cream soda was root beer.

Not even close... Nash's is a quality lemonade... TK is like food colouring and acid mixed together... Absolutely vile

A lot drinks now taste brutal since the sugar has been reduced, probably due to the probability of a sugar tax...got lucoade yesterday the new bottle, it's says original on bottle but its tastes rotten and sure enough the sugar has dropped and it now only has something like 20 calories a bottle 😕

The original point of locozade was some sort of tonic.. Sad how commercialism and regulation compete to corrupt most things in the end.

Dead right, I work in a care home and if one of our diabetic residents goes hypo on the sugars we whack in the Lucozade, job done. Back to drawing board!

Hold the phone? 20 calories. That stuff used to be like double the calories of a coke!

I've a real hankering now for TK red lemonade, must be over 20 years since I last had some.

I managed to find a few old bottles in Inichicore today, couldn't believe my luck. They were only the small 500ml bottles but fcuk it! Beggars can't be choosers.

Might as well get as many of the old stock left while I can.

Yep...the sugar content in the old bottles was around 40% of your daily recommended sugar intake. Whats the point of drinking the stuff now ffs!

Plus the new one tastes rotten...never really drank that much of it but would get a craving on occasion...I picked up a few older bottles today as well.

I used to buy the orange one after training....Talk about giving you energy is an understatement! That stuff was a lifesaver!

It's made in Limerick if I recall, SuperValu and Tescos normally carry it... Independent off licences too

on tesco's site it shows no sweeteners, could be old info.

There is the relatively new club orange zero, which has less orange in it than club orange light (previously club diet orange)

My tesco had full sugar lucozade yesterday in bottles, not sure about large bottles. On tesco.ie it shows lower sugar for 1 size and not the other. The sugar tax is in the UK, maybe there will be irish versions of some, but some shops might get uk market stuff

    http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/lucozade-fans-complain-soft-drink-lower-sugar-recipe-twitter-ribena-sugar-tax-obesity-a7687071.html

They should continue to have the real stuff at a higher price if needed. The sugar tax is like a sin tax, like excise on alcohol. Many buy lucozade for the sugar content, just like they buy vodka expecting it to be 37.5%, it'd be like excise duty going up and smirnoff dropping their alcohol content to remain at the same price -and throw in claims of helping tackle alcohol related health problems.

This thread has just reminded me that when I was a very small child lucozade used to come in a glass bottle which was wrapped in orange cellophane for some mysterious reason...

    CYLdYu2.jpg

Total blast from the past! :)

And the crunch of the cellophane - seemed like a product that was destined to make you well

Lucozade-the best hangover cure ever. It's actually great though if you're sick, there used to be a massive pick up from it.
