S40 reduced engine power & emissions warnings

2005 S50 1.8 (petrol). 'Reduced engine power' warning comes on intermittently. Reoccurred today & juddered/hesitated while driving. Sometimes stopping & restarting the engine resolves it temporarily. Have had other niggling issues too such as emissions warnings (resolved temporarily by resetting warnings).

Have had a local indy look at it, they put diags on it, thought it could be the accelerator but weren't entirely sure & recommended to just reset it each time the emissions light comes on. But between that & the latest juddering development i don't think they're equipped to resolve both issues (possibly related, unknown).

Looking to get it diagnosed & quoted for a full fix. Won't go Volvo stealership rip off route. So looking for a garage with either an ex Volvo mechanic or a lot of Volvo experience. Any recommendations in Dublin or Wicklow? Used to use Scully Auotocare in Clontarf but they've closed.

Any recommendations welcomed re likely root cause(s) of both issues & for a garage or mechanic who'd be the suitable to fix it without being the bank.

That's a 1.8 Mondeo engine, I believe. A good Ford Indy might be an option also.

Is the car starting ok? Fuel pumps can give trouble. Catalytic converter possibly?

    PH

Thanks, I don't suppose you know of any good Ford indys? Car starts ok. Will keep fuel pump & catalytic converter in mind when speaking with whatever indy i find. Thanks.

Alternator is a weak spot with that engine and gives the issues you describe, but nothing when plugged in to diagnostics.

Had those issues on the wife's 05 V50 1.8 for a while before it just died. Think it was around 400 for a recon unit to be fitted, so not the end of the world.

The most common issue (and a cheap fix:about 20 Euro) with these engines is a small breather pipe (it looks a like a letter C) at bottom of the intlet manifold.Check it for cracks,as I've seen mechanics overlooking this and changing inlet manifolds, throttle bodies etc.
The other common issue is the twin solenoid valve (about 80 Euro + VAT) governing the inlet manifold runners.
The odd time the throttle body or throttle pedal can give trouble too. Petrol or diesel pedals are the same.
Personally I would start with the first two I mentioned above.

Had the exact same issue, brought it to a couple of garages including a ford garage who said their machines couldn't read the faults, brought it to Volvo who said it's the throttle body
