    Hi all,

Just wondering, am on my first learner permit in category B, got it in 2015 after passing theory test. Its now up for renewal but I copped it has code 992 on the back.

If Im not mistaken code 992 means its the second learner permit in that category? However its my first learner permit in the B category.

I have a learners permit in category A1 for the bike since 2013, however that is a different category.

Will I not be allowed renew?

I'm not 100% certain I follow whether you're inquiring about the scooter category (AM).

It does sound like an error - a category has to be held on a permit (regardless of whether you were issued a 'one year permit' or a 'two year permit') for over a year before it is considered a full 'count' as it's possible to add categories to an existing permit mid-stream. Unless you want to explain exactly what was added and when (ie if you came in half way through one of your two year permits to add a new category).

From what I understand of your case, if you held your first permit for A1 and AM between and 2015 and then came after that permit expired for your first B & W, you should have different start dates on both sets of categories - the AM and A1 should be 2013/ 992 and the B&W should be 2015/ 991.

If you're in any doubt, you can either call the NDLS to clarify if you're in trouble with regard to making test bookings in advance of application or if you are sure you shouldn't be moving on to 993 in any category, you should make it clear to the NDLS agent that your counts and start dates appear to be wrong.

Yeah my AM and A1 are start date 2013 and 992, thats grand. Its the A2 is start date 2015 and 992 and B start date 2015 and 992 aswell.

The AM and A1 being 992 is correct, as it is my second permit in those, however the A2 and B its my first permit in those but the codes on those are also 992.

So yeah, Its definitely an error. I'm renewing it next week hopefully so will make sure the agent knows that the codes are wrong (they should only be going to 992 now when I renew).

    Cool.

Unless you have a test booking for a A2 (or A1 or AM), you'll lose the AM and A1 categories this time which is probably good for you- the AM and A1 categories are moving onto 993 would give you a 1 year permit this time but if you end up with B, W and A2 all moving onto 992 then you'll get a 2 year permit again this time.

Obviously as long as you have A2 you can ride small cycles and scooters on the A2 category anyway.
