Broadband/Router Advice

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice however I dont have all the facts.

The parents are looking to get the internet into their foreign holiday apartment. They are not in anyway IT clued in, even worse than me.

They were in a couple of the internet suppliers shops today and the cheapest offer was you get a router and they had to give the location of their apartment while the shop assistant looked up something and said the satellite will pick up the signal.

So by the sounds of it, they will be given a router to plug into the wall and that will look to pick up a satellite signal Im guessing. Would my understanding be correct?
If so, how reliable is this type of broadband in general?

I thought a setup which maybe included their own little satellite with a line connection into the apartment would be more reliable, like we have in our house.

    Thanks

Where is the foreign holiday apartment and what internet suppliers shops were they in?

Is there an active phone line connection to the apartment?

Its in Portugal, the supplier was either Meo or Nos. They went into both, the cheaper option is the one described. As far as I know they have a phone line but no phone/not used. The other option which I did not mention included a phoneline and phone set-up.
Apologies I dont have all the info as that is all the parents could remember and basically they havent a clue.

landline based broadband will likely be much faster and reliable than a satellite system

Satellite could also refer to a Wireless ISP antenna?

PAYG and a Mifi device may be the most pragmatic solution.

Thanks, as they will be renting the apartment out throughout a 6 month window, something for a set-price with unlimited broadband would be more beneficial.
Contract is for 2 years, just trying to figure out how reliable the broadband will be.
