We went to ashton to enquire about putting two poms there the guy said we will take them as strays for free without asking a question about them .then himself and the young girl were whispering to each other after a little plan they came back ..
and the girl very uncomfortable said we will take them now for 80euro .so they thought they just hatched a plan to make money for them both the place was empty nobody else around so eerie and weird would never put an animal in there looked like they just wanted a few quid
And no interest for the dogs
    No thanks

Mod note Post split away from a 4 yr old thread.

    Mod hat off
Op, I'm not sure why there'd have been whispers, other than one staff member forgot, for some reason, that all pounds including Ashton charge a surrender fee. It's usually somewhere around the €50-100 mark. They have to cover the cost of keeping, feeding, possibly microchipping your dog(s). Taking in surrendered dogs is not, and never has been in the 20 years I've been involved in rescue, a free service.... So with respect, you may put the conspiracy theories to bed. Or, better still, if you're very concerned, contact and complain to Dublin City Council, who are ultimately responsible for that pound. There is nothing to be achieved by giving out about the place here.
Ashton is not a pretty place, but believe it or not is better than some. These are county pounds... They're rarely pretty places, with one or two notable exceptions.

To reiterate what DBB said, all pounds charge a surrender fee. You may not be aware, but surrenders can be killed in pounds immediately, strays have to do 5 days stray time, surrenders don't. Pounds aren't rescues, they exist to deal with stray animals. If you need to get rid of your dogs, please contact the breeder first, if they were a reputable breeder, if not, then try your local rescues. Chances are, if the dogs aren't killed by the pound, it will be a local rescue that will take them out anyway.

They had no interest for the dogs? You're the one putting dogs into the pound.

Have you tried to rehome them?

You must know that putting them in the pound can lead to immediate PTS???

Why would you expect them to take them for free? Even if they are killed straight away this is still a cost invovled.
