I've been offered a job in Sandyford and am waiting on an affor for a place in Citywest. Given the rent madness lately it's looking likely that I'll end up west of the M50 with some friends.

If I end up going for the Sandyford role what kind of commute should I expect from Lucan or Clondalkin? My future housemates will be commuting to Leixlip, so if it'd be good to know what kind of commute they'd expect too.

Public transport or driving? If public transport the new luas cross city will be good for you.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'll be getting a car. My housemates both drive.

Info on public transport would be handy though - any idea what length of trip would I be able to expect once the Luas is joined up? I hadn't really considered it to be honest, but when I was living city centre a few years back it took 40 minutes to get from Stephens Green to Sandyford...

Luas depends on where in clondalkin. If you go for the neilstown area so your mates can get bus to leixlip, you are stuck with bus into town, bus/luas out of town.

If you move to somewhere you can get the luas, you all have to go in and out of town.

Anyone have anything to add to this?

Looking on Google Maps, it puts drive to Sandyford at anything between 20 minutes to an hour to get there for 9am during the week - not much different for 8:30am. How accurate would this be?

Am I right in thinking the commute to Liexlip would be less variable considering it'd be going against the traffic?

Driving to leixlip from anywhere in West Dublin is the handiest driving commute going once you don't need to use M50 or cut through Lucan village.

The M50 can be a car park, as can the N4 junction. An hour sounds reasonable.

I imagine Leixlip would be an easy drive, but I haven't done it at that time.

Any idea how the N7 is in the mornings? It's looking like we'll end up closer to the N7 than the N4
