I have seen two different methods and looking for pros and cons

    1. Eps on compacted fill and raft poured on top of this with eps wrapping round the perimeter of the raft

    2. Stone fill with raft poured on top. Eps and screed on top of the raft

It's all about the insulation thickness, continuity & ulitinately the details - then and only then about ease of construction.

Is there any issue with the eps being in contact with the fill? Does it deteriorate in time due to moisture or water in the ground for example

AS Bryan says the devil is in the detail.
However, as an engineer, assuming the raft is required to deal with poor subsoil issues, I would not design my foundation slab to sit on EPS: old school maybe....
