Need to transfer shares from UBS a/c elsewhere

Hi - I have shares in a U.S. UBS a/c that I need to transfer somewhere as this a/c will be closed at the end of the year, do I need to choose a stockbroker and transfer my shares into an account, is this difficult to do seeing as the shares are in the U.S? thanks
