Polo reverse light switch

    Hey,

The reverse lights aren't working in my 02 polo, i reckon the reverse light switch is gone. I can find guides online for the golf where it's under the battery in the engine bay but not for a polo. Does anyone know if it's in the same location? I read conflicting posts on other forums where some people say it's under the gearbox and you need a lift and others say it can be accessed in the engine bay?

    Cheers

Have you ruled out the actual bulb or the fuse?

Thanks for the reply, I had ruled out the bulb and fuse. For anyone else this may affect directly under the engine is a plastic cover, remove this and you can get to the switch it's on the left hand side of the engine bay as you look up and looks like a spark plug sticking out of the gearbox facing the rear/inside of the front bumper . The cable in mine was broken right at the plug which is apperantly a common problem and vw offer a repair wire for sale.

I chopped it off the wires , got out the hacksaw to the plastic plug and soldering iron and fixed it that way as the parts department had closed by the time i did it.

It's only a 12v switch so any old wire you have lying around will do if you need to extend it, which is what i did as it obviously snapped because the standard plug is too taught
