Looking to tidy up my short game and see the GUI academy run 2 hour group clinics for €65. Has anyone experienced these and most importantly, would you recommend them?

that in Carton? I might take a look at that myself

yeah, they have a few different options - greenside & bunkers, wedges & pitching and long game. There's a full day option too, 6 hours for €140, but I reckon that could be serious information overload

I did the putting one last year. At the time i didnt think much of it, but i ahve practiced several of the drills over the winter and starting to see some real benefit from it. Im going to do one of their wedge clinics this weak.

I did one last year and found it very good. The practice facilities are super. I think there was 6 of us with one pro, all with a bucket of balls each around a large green. He started explaining his technique for a chip and run. We all tried it out and he went around from person to person and he gave us individual instruction.

Went on to pitching and then bunker shots with the same approach.

I felt the individual tuition was really good and you got plenty of time to yourself to practice it.

It's a tricky one to call to be honest. The facilities are great, as are the pros.the main problem with a group session is you can be unlucky with the group & end up with a braindead eejit who will eat up a pile of the pros time

For example, on one that I was at, had a guy spend 10 minutes argue that a putt hit short wasn't going to miss 100% of the time :(

Definitely agree with the above I done one a few years back it was an enjoyable day but found you are just practising around the green on your own for most of it as the Pro goes around the group spending 5 mins on each person or longer on one who are only starting out! I'd personally would much prefer individual lesson.

Agreed, you could do a bit of hybrid of this.

You could go for an individual short game lesson at Carton, given the facilities are great.

Then you can get a day pass for the academy (sometimes they come up on an offer) that gives you unlimited range balls plus time on putting greens & short game area to put your lesson in to practice

Did one (the short game one) last year after the new facilities opened.

Can definitely recommend it. I found it very useful, not just in terms of how to play certain shots but also how to practice.

The young pro we had was very good and made sure everyone had plenty of time with him. I thought it was great value.

The only reason I haven't gone back for more is because it's a bit far for me and the new pro we got at our club is a decent teacher.

    Definitely this.

I did the putting one, thought it was excellent. Really improved my putting. (HC 17)

There was only 2 of us, when there was meant to be 6. So it was 1h30 of lessons, drills etc so probably 45m of one-on-one with a pro for 20 euro. If you have the luxury, go midweek during the day - might be quieter.

We must have been on the same course.

Did it and the Pelz 1 day Clinic. The big problem is that it is in a group. Try Tadhg Harrington at the Airport Driving Range for one on one lessons. Much better return for your money, he has turned my short game around over the winter.

"Short Game Clinics have maximum capacity of six"
For 50 sovs you'd get an hour 1 to 1 from a good pro. I'd prefer that.

100% agree, 50 bucks for a group isn't good value.

I did one of these lessons after Xmas and was really disappointed with the standard of coaching and preparation work by the staff, they had actually double book my slot.

For the 50 quid you are getting 2 hours of coaching though not 1 hour.

but it's not. it two hours in a group of 6 so you are not going to get the one on one time, especially if there is a muppet in the group

the more I thought about it, the more one on one lessons makes more sense

edit: maybe if you want to have a go on the trackman it would be a good option though?

I think the them clinics do include trackman aswell though.

One to one lessons are definitely more beneficial overall but i think the clinics are a good option particularly if going with a couple of friends.

It was the trackman lesson I got as a gift for Xmas and the child doing the lesson (that's all I can call him) had no interest in coaching me but just given me the feedback from the machine which I could have read myself.

Total waste of money and if a paying customer I would have asked for a refund.

I got one as a birthday present a few years ago - the standard was pretty basic so unless you're a beginner or higher handicapper I'd say it's not good value for money - better off with individual short game lessons with a decent pro

I did one of these a few years ago and really got some benefit from it. Only 3 in my group so that really helped. So others have said the facility's are excellent.

I went back for a 1 on 1 lesson with the guy who gave the class but think he's in the Spawell now.
