    Hi All,
I would be grateful for your advice on this issue.
My car was recently scrapped, due to an unfixable fault. Two weeks before the fault showed up, I bought two new tyres (205/55 R16). My new car takes 17" tyres, so they are no good for the new car.
    My father's car currently has 195/60 R16.
Would it be OK for my father to use my 205/55 R16 tyres on his car?
Sorry if this is a stupid question!!

Thanks. That is useful. Based on that site, it seems to be OK.
Just to double check, as they are both R16, is it OK to use the same wheels, even though my tyres are wider than his originals?

Yes, the overall width difference is 1 cm so it will be 5 mm inside and outside which is not significant.

The circumference of the new tyres is 1,985mm, your father's old tyres are 2,012 mm so the difference won't affect the speedo reading - it's less than 2%.

The only difference your father may notice is that the ride will be slightly firmer because the profile is 55 rather than 60 - the tyre wall in the new tyres will be 113 mm vs. 117 mm on the old tyres. If his shocks are in good order, he probably won't notice any difference.

They'll be absolutely fine and unless he has a super sensitive posterior he won't notice any difference. Work away.

Thanks everybody for the quick responses. It is great that they won't be going to waste. I doubt if I would have gotten much for them second hand. Now at least my Dad will get the use of two new tyres.
