Cheapest way of Sending Electronic Cash to Canada

    Hi all,

I'm repaying a fee from a fallen through sale via Adverts.

What's the cheapest way to send money electronically to an account in Canada?

I'm trying to avoid the 3.5% fee charged by Pay Pal to lodge money into my Pay Pal account and then transfer that to person in Canada.

I'm looking to use my Ulsterbank account to make payment to Canada.

    Thanks.

Not saying you are being scammed, but this sounds awfully like a stereotypical scam [ Pay early, cant collect, ask for refund, original payment is then recalled ]. Just thought to put that out there.

You can make an international wire transfer but make sure your bank has an agreement with their bank or you could send $500 CAD and only $50 CAD would arrive.

Thanks Ed E. Yes at beginning it was all a bit suspect. Relatively Anonymous buyer from Canada wth no Adverts.ie history.

But it was a genuine buyer. Who rapidly pad full asking price into my Pay Pal account, even before I requested payment. Which I never actually did at any point. I was waiting to get an export licence first.

As it was a rare vintage instrument made with protected woods, I needed a licence to export out of EU. Long story, but it was virtually impossible to prove woods used in this instance. So we had to cancel sale.

Meanwhile Pay Pal had charged a fee for orginal payment, and so I'm trying to find cheapest way to get money back into the persons account without ether of us having to pay anymore than we have to.

It's unfortunate. But it's all about protecting endangered woods and managing their import and export. As a one-off private seller and buyer, I guess we are collateral damage. But I support the licensing laws.

PS: If I get persons Bic and Iban account details. Is it safe enough to make payment that way from my Ulsterbank account? I'm presuming it is, but to Canda, I've never done before. Just want to get the cash back to its owner as cheaply and as safely as possible.

How did he/she paid send money to a friend or pay for goods? Check the payment there might be an option to refund money. If the option is not there contact Paypal support they should be able to help you or guide you.

If you process a refund they should get the full amount back even the fees they paid. If he /she paid for goods you paid the fees when receiving the money, again when you do a refund they will get full amount.

Other issue could be he/she paid in 500 in EUR with the Canadian credit card, they were charge in CAD with the exchange rate on that day, when the refund is process they will get the 500 EUR but if the exchange rate is not the same they will get less money back to the credit card, it should only be a couple for CAD

    Thanks Nava,

I'll have a good read through your post, but just a quick reply for clarity.

I had heard of some difficulties of leaving money in a Pay Pal account. Maybe I misheard what that was.

So with that in my mind. after a few weeks, whilst awaiting an a Export licence, I transferred the money sitting in my Pay Pal account into my current account.

So with the deal now fallen through, I had planned to transfer money back from my current account into my Pay Pal and incur a 3.5% fee. Which I'm trying to avoid.

The peraon who was the intended buyer, was charged 3.5% fee, which came off the money that was sent to me, so I got 3.5% less than agreed price. But I took that on the chin in good faith. So I guess that indicates the intended buyer had used the Pay Pal "Pay for Goods"?

    I hope that makes sense.
