Certificate of Conformity hassle

We are moving to France this summer and want to take with me my beloved commercial 2 seaters 1998 discovery 1 300 TDI.
i need to do so a certificate of Conformity so asked for one at Landover Ireland , they sent me to Landrover UK. after sending tones of documents / pictures etc ... they said there is a certificate but they cannot give it to me because the car was modified. Now that was news to me.
Bought the discovery 3 years ago , it is registered as a commercial with 2 seats / 3 doors.
The lad at Landrover UK tells me that it was first built with 5 seats  so no way you get a certificate.

Didn't know they were making 2 doors / 5 seats discoveries.
Because of this i can't take it to France , anybody knows a way around that ?

    Thanks

Just a thought but won't it be a hassle with the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car? Drive-throughs, parking houses etc are all build for LHD cars.
    Are you leaving forever?

No hassle , do a very low mileage with it anyway.

Every single commercial 4x4 in Ireland was originally a passenger car. If they attempted to sell 'van' discos elsewhere they would be extremely unpopular. That is is why you don't see commercial anywhere else in the world unless special order.

Get the certificate of Conformity (5 seater) and use it to register her. That should be enough and it's all your ever going to get from Land Rover as that ix how it left the factory.

Thanks for the info. The things is that Landrover UK refused to give me the certificate because of the change from 5 seats to 2.
The French being French :D how will they react with a 2 seaters that has a certificate for a 5 seaters ?

Land Rover can't issue the cert because the vehicle doesn't match how it left the factory, if they did it would question any other cert of conformity they issue.

Is it possible to get a French engineers report to register it? A friend had to do a lot of work to get an Irish motor bike registered in the UK, he had to get it inspected by an approved centre and some other checks but they registered it in the end.

Land Rover special vehicles used to make commercial discoveries. Saw one before when a lad was trying to trade one in. Lovely finish, had a weird aluminium floor with rubber inserts or something in it.

Mitsubishi also did a Shogun 4work van, not sure if this was converted in the sa,e style as the ones we got in Ireland. Only saw one once.

    .

I thought they started that after seeing the Irish conversions. Still does not alter the fact that the vehicle the OP isn't as it left their factory.

Things don't seem too good in France these days . Hope you are going to south ??

Landrover France will give me a certificate but it will be a partial compliance certificate.
They said that the commercial disocveries were never homologated in France.
So that means more paper work and hassle , might not be worth it.

Are you 100% sure French authorities will required cert of conformity from you?
AFAIR there is some EU directive, stating that member states should register vehicles already registered in other member states, just based on registration documents from country of origin.

    200 % sure unfortunately
And what you just said is correct but Certificate of Conformity is big business. Certs cost around €220 from Landrover France , £100 from Landrover UK.
On the other hand Peugeot Ireland gave me a cert for our second car for free.

Not much to contribute here but I recently got a certificate of conformity from BMW (free by the way) for a (then) 11 year old car. BMW didn't want photos and didn't certify that the car currently is in conformity with anything, they just provided the original certificate of conformity that should really be provided with a car (I've since bought a new car which was provided with the certificate without asking for it). Don't understand why land-rover should care or be interested in current condition of your car, tell them you just want the original document.

It has nothing to do with the condition of the vehicle.

It's about vehicle type/EU vehicle category.

If original certificate of conformity points that vehicle is of category M1 (passenger vehicle), while vehicle in fact is N1 (goods vehicle up to 3.5t) and registered as such, then surely dealer can't issue cert of conformity for M1 vehicle.

I'm aware. My point is that a manufacturer should issue the original certificate. The vehicle owner can then take action if needs be. I don't see why a manufacturer should want evidence of the current vehicle type to issue the original certificate. If the original certificate and the current use/type do not align, that is a different issue in my view.

or i might just fit back rear passenger seats. Anybody knows the process to convert a commercial 2 seats to a 5 ?
All original fixing seems to be there and you can find original seats on ebay for small money.
This way no more compliance problem.

Thought i might ask here ......
Anybody has or knows where i could source the front and back seats for a 1998 discovery 1 300 tdi ?

it is a 2 doors model so the front seats must come with the tilting base.
    Thank you
