So my A6 is coming up on 175000kms
Starting to get a bit of knocking underneath, it's not as quiet as it was.

So I was thinking of replacing a lot of the wear items underneath to tighten her back up again, regardless of wether they are worn or not ,or showing signs of wear.
I presume they won't last for ever and if I do them now I won't have to do them again.

I won't be doing any of the work myself , will get a mechanic and maybe buy the stuff myself.
I wouldn't mind spending 5-600 euro on bits and pieces if they tighten her back up again.

Anybody care to tell me what would be worth replacing underneath?
I know droplinks, anything else apart from them?

    Cheers.

My one piece of advice is most spurious suspension components for Audis are crap and you will be replacing most of them within 10 - 15k again, a total false economy.

Find out who makes the genuine parts like suspension arms etc and then buy those ones from a motor factors etc rather than buying them from Audi.

Yea I won't be going to Audi for the parts.
    Won't be buying crap either.
I like to look after my car :-P

Edit : I get what your saying, genuine Audi part but not from Audi.

Not necessarily genuine audi parts. OEM parts so the will be made in the same place and be of the same quality but will be in different packaging, or there may be some 3rd party companies that are not OEM suppliers but make very good quality products.

It's been a while since i had any suspension arms etc changed but i remember lemforder being good and the likes of Febi being ones to avoid.

Daltons in Portlaoise did a lot of work on my A6 for about half of the Audi quote. Really know their way around VAG cars. They came highly recommended from this forum. George Dalton is on the boards here, look him up and send him a PM.

+1 for George and the lads. They look after my own A6 and my previous Passat as well.

Yea I know about George , seen him
    Mentioned and post on here.
But I'd like to go to a mechanic with all the bits and say do these please.
Rather than them checking and changing something and the knock is still there and going back again.
I'd like to do them all and have a fresh car for another 100k.
If you know what I mean :-P

But Maybe it's not that simple or overly expensive?

    Madness imo.
Get it on a lift and find the issue that is causing the knocking and replace.
Look for anything in marginal condition also and replace.
Going mad replacing all rubber components could ad up to something silly price wise.

I'm just thinking a bit of preventative maintenance and tighten her up like,
Is it possible to get the car feeling like it just rolled Out of the factory, when there is not a sound to be heard when going over a bump.
One or 2 rattles in the interior that I am going tackling and she will be getting a good seeing to with the polisher when the weather permits and a weekend of detailing.
The engine cover underneath is missing a few clips, so will be fitting all that correctly again, there is a hole in one of the wheel arch liners that I will be replacing also , headlights polished , and whatever else.
Due 4 tyres in a couple of months and will probably get the wheels refurbed too.

All that won't mean anything if I still hear something underneath, it will drive me mad :-D

I've had an itch for a new car for a few months and have basically talked myself out of it and will be spending a bit of money getting the Audi back to something I don't want to get rid of :-P
Will be cheaper than a new car, so I don't mind spending a bit of money on her.

Anyway I'll get it up on a lift and see what's up.
