    Hello all

I am currently using Google drive and drop box for storage of all pics and other docs.

They are reaching capacity and now need to look at other options.

Ideally it would be free storage.

Also is 15gb of pics on Google drive safe or should I back up too a external hard drive

Finally where would I get a good value hard drive.

    Thanks in advance

Might be a maaad idea. But with the personal photos etc probably being dear to you why not actually pay for the storage it's 1 dollar a month for like 100gb or more depending on who you go with ...

Use Google photos rather than Google drive. That has unlimited free storage as long as you don't want to save them in super high resolution >16mp, >1080p.

First of all download Google drive for desktop.

    https://tools.google.com/dlpage/drive

Let it download all your photos to your PC. When finished download Google photos desktop uploader.

    https://photos.google.com/apps

    And upload them all.

Also install Google photos on your Android device so it'll auto upload your future snaps.

I currently store image files on more that one external HD.

It's getting to the stage (they go back to 2006), where I'm considering cloud storage.

For space reasons, 90% of what I store are RAW files. The rest are Jpegs of some of those (converted/edited) RAW files.

I currently have about 5Tb of files.

I am shooting more and more video, so those files will increase my storage needs.

As with most things tech, the choice is mind-boggling.

    What are my options?

    Many thanks.

Update: After some research (mostly on photography sites) I went with CrashPLAN

Am currently in the process of uploading almost 6Tb of files at a snail's pace. Computer has been on for four days and will be on for many more. But, once it's done, it's done. After that it's only updates.

About $60 per annum. Fantastic value at the price.

CP are one of the originals of the species. Been around a decade, or more, I think. Reviews are pretty much excellent, particularly in the photo community.

    So, sorted.

Glad to hear you're uploading the photos. Was going to say that hard drives fail especially if you have one since 2006. Hopefully not the same one since then.

    No.

Have a LaCie 10Tb RAID on my desk. Uploading from that.

Also, have everything on various portable USB drives. One for every 2/3 years.

    Thanks.

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

What I wouldn't give for an ISP offering decent upload speeds.

This is going to take months!

Would even be great to be able to swap around your service so that your download speed became your upload speed and vice versa.

Still, I'll only have to do it once...I hope!
