two garda colleagues were interviewing Mr McDonagh’s brother about another matter at his caravan at the N5 Business Park

He may claim he's paying for holiday with SW but we all know better

That report read like a sketch from Irish pictorial Weekly.

Can just picture it in a few months when they are refusing to leave the castle unless they get disturbance money, and have bags of rubbish, sofa's, and 'haliminuim' window frames piled up against the side of it.

He probably overpaid his taxes and afforded the trip from his massive rebate...

McDonagh then attempted to run off to avoid arrest and tripped himself up.

Doesn't AH get weary with endless threads about people on Social welfare?

I thought from AH that Judge's didn't make harsh decisions, and that travellers were untouchable, and even more so following the ethnic status designation?

And here we have a 3 months sentence for a public order matter?

I'm happy with that Judge's decision.

Ah good, another welfare bashing thread.

It's been a while. Or a day at least.

But it's both Travellers AND Social Welfare, it has to be celebrated with some bashing and bans!

Yes but this one has the added bonus of a Traveller involved too.

He initially pleaded guilty, then changed his plea and then admitted he was guilty of the charge before the court but that it was in response to garda behaviour. He said his children and his nephews were in the area when gardaí arrived and gardaí were raising their voice and ‘saying the f word’.

The poor man obviously didn't want young children listening to foul language.
Garda O’Gara said McDonagh came over and was raising his voice. He said the matter escalated and McDonagh called Garda O’Gara ‘a pig’s bastard’. He said McDonagh was ‘in my face’ and he thought McDonagh was going to strike him.

I'm not really into whining about social welfare but that story is hilarious.

why are Revenue and CAB not straight in there?

why are Revenue and CAB not straight in there?

The Criminal Assets Bureau? Woah woah woah. Is going abroad on the dole now grounds for bringing in the CAB? And what revenue offence is he supposed to have committed.

Let's not send in the A Team, if his lifestyle appears to be more lavish than social welfare allows...why not simply send in inspectors from the Dept of Social Protection?

He said he wanted the matter dealt with immediately as he is going back to Dublin after St Patrick’s Day and he, his wife and their two children are then going to Disneyworld in Florida.
Judge Devins asked him how was he paying for this. He said social welfare and that the holiday ‘is only for a week’.
He's some neck on him for coming out with the above.
After hearing his seven previous convictions, Judge Devins sentenced McDonagh to three months in prison.
Good enough for him. Hope he misses his holiday.
