Signing off midweek, lose full week payment??

    So I recently started new part-time job. Getting fis and back to work family divided payment. Was on jsa. Collection day Tues. I started work on the mon, I only told dole office on Tues afternoon after I collected dole that morn from PO as usual. I knew I'd owe them for the two days but as I was only working pt and it would take weeks for Fis to come through, I'd be on less money for few weeks. And I was totally skint. So got fis and got arrears pd, but it was less than I was expecting so I rang them up and they said some had been sent back to local dole office. I worked it out and they sent back full weeks jsa payment. The family divided wasn't pd for first week working and was less 2nd week and I assumed that was for the two overpaid days.
    Is it normal that they don't pay for the week if you start work before week is finished? Thanks
