Virgin Media Phone Line & House Alarm issue

We have recently moved to Virgin & discovered that we'll have a problem with our house alarm, as it's a wired one & needs a phone line to call us if it goes off.
As the Virgin broadband & phone don't need a line they've said that we'd need another phone line to be able to use the alarm - at a cost of €11.50 per month.
We only moved because the package price was better but it won't be worthwhile if we have to pay this. Running the landline through our mobiles isn't an option either as we'd have to get the alarm turned into a wireless one which we don't want to do.
Is there any way around this?
Apparently it's just a case of Virgin activating the second port & us plugging it in. I wasn't made aware that this would be an issue when we signed up.

Virgin charge €6 standalone fee or €5 for phone, you only need a single line to use the alarm, split it with a Y if needed.

The correct way, to prevent a phone being off hook stopping the alarm panel from dialling out, is to loop the incoming phone line through the alarm panel and back out again to the phone(s). This allows the alarm panel to "seize" the line on activation and prevent this from happening.
