So following on from my thread re the potentially massive costs to repair my b6 passat I'm preparing the list for the cars that could be replacing it.
For sure I'm in diesel territory and need an estate and one which has min 170bhp. Budget wise I'm not sure but pointless listing it cause I'm looking to buy abroad and not in Ireland.
I've spent literally 8mins looking online and me being abroad makes it even harder. Poland.
Anywho here are (for now) the cars which caught my eye:

Mazda 6 2.2 180bhp - reviews are so and so about it but then again so are for the b6.

Alfa 159 2.4 ti in black with red leather... I want this one but the wife is saying no. Fcukin typical.

    Volvo v70 d5.. fierce boring.

Saab 93 ttid aero - what are those like?

Octavia vrs tdi - not bad looking and supposed be a fairly lively car. I assume it's the exact same engine as my 170 passat?

Or I can again go for a b6 170 passat but up a year or two which is the most tempting in all honesty.

May take a while to actually get the car as I'm still waiting on the final figure to repair my car but for now that's the list.
I'd be willing to go for a saloon if the boot is big enough to put a buggy inside for example.

Was considering getting one a few weeks ago, albeit in saloon and q-tronic guise. Unfortunately missed that boat ! Was gutted. :(

Good reviews on the 2.4 reliability wise.

Buy it and get a good divorce solicitor :pac:

These have absolutely no legroom in the back.

I was just looking at an exeo 170 but just did nothing for me.
Re the audi, I can get a 3.0 quattro a6 in budget but I could also be a bastard and get an a8!.
Superb won't make my budget unfortunately only octavia vrs but generally the low spec one.
I've heated seats and Satnav in the passat so want to keep the level of spec similar.
Accord.. I've had such a bad experience with them and the saloon version of the newer version I could get but the 180 2.2 is pretty hard to find.
The 159 is the one that pulls me back in everytime but I'm not putting up with her everyday over it.
Saw a 2.4 croma for sale too which isn't bad spec wise and I quite like the looks of it.. mad I know.

Won't be as big or practical as a Passat, but they're fairly powerful and fun to drive.
Automatic box is to be avoided on these.

Yeah and the reviews say the rear legroom is crap.
The dash itself is quite bare and bland looking or maybe I'm just too used to the passat.
Such a balls being thrown into this situation.
I've fully comp so I'll just nudge it slightly into a barrier at speed to write it off :)

is it the badge or red seats that puts her off?

Bad news for me. I was so tempted to buy 9-3 aero estate, I think one of the best looking estates. But I only prefer automatics. :( It's a GM box I guess, wonder whats so wrong with them?

Yeah rear legroom is non existent if your over 4ft tall, its absolutely ridiculous how small they are. I had one and while I got rid of it for other reasons, the lack of leg room in the rear really bugged me, its even cramped for child seats where the kids sit higher but have no room to stretch out their legs and end up kicking the rear of the front seats all the time. If you have children or plan on carrying passengers in the rear then forget about Saabs.

For sure I'm in diesel territory /.../

When you drive in Poland, skip the diesels and get an LPG car. You have just experienced how buying a well used diesel ends...

And, and I say it with all seriousness, with the prices of used cars in Poland right now, I would get a new Tipo SW. With factory LPG. Or a previous generation Astra Sedan, with LPG as well from the factory.

We owned a 156 a few years ago which was having an affair with my mechanic so this has put her off.
Amazing really considering it would be MY car
Can only buy one new to convince her..

Yes I agree, it's a pity considering I really like the car. Came from Germany with a full service history.
Worth sweet **** all from the looks of it.
The prices are unbelievable unless I'm looking at anything Italian or French.
Funny you mentioned the Tipo, I'm looking at a Tipo SW now with the t-jet engine for around 15k.
Think I might take a look at one over the weekend.
Just the idea of going from 170bhp to 120 makes me want to cry.

Is an Insignia 160 a good contender? Prices seem ok but again the reviews say it's got issues with electrics.
Another car which I quite like the look of a TitX S 2.2 Mondeo - good spec in general and it seems to have a nice interior.

The 159 2.4's are a reliable car in general Bear. The engines are built like tanks. They have stronger gearboxes too so don't have the issues the 1.9's did.

Volvo D5 are a great car actually, I'd recommend one. Engine and interiors are superb.

You only live once, get a 159! :D

Tried bringing it up again but when i started to hear moaning I just dropped it.
Tis a pity, there was also an ex polizia 159 for sale
Obvious as day it's an ex Italian police car but fairly ****e interior.
